Mt Barker in South Australia, has a Mediterranean
type climate and is one of the larger towns situated in the
very picturesque rolling hills of the Mt Lofty Ranges that surround Adelaide,
our capital city and CBD, while smaller beautiful and interesting townships
contribute to add beauty to this very scenic district. Most localities began as
farming enterprises in the early 1900's but in the latter part of century,
farms have been included in the 'urban sprawl'.
Majestic Red Gum eucalypts, complimented with smaller varieties and
other native and exotic species of flora, grace the hills.
South Australia is known as the ‘Wine State’ and Mt Barker &
Districts FF is situated within easy reach of several notable wine regions e.g. Barossa, Southern Vales, Langhorne
Creek, as well as lower climate area wineries which are scattered through
the Adelaide Hills areas. Murray
River, galleries, white sandy beaches, kangaroos, koalas, bird life are all
part of many other attractions in the surrounding districts
Normal plans for exchanges are variable but often fits into one
bi-annual international out-bound exchange, while during the alternate years, a
domestic exchange is enjoyed. Usually we receive 2 international inbound
exchanges annually and then often enjoy a domestic exchange as well.
Mt Barker is able to host up to 20 ambassadors
per exchange. The airport, train and bus stations are within easy
access in nearby capital city, Adelaide, and arrangements are made to
transport ambassadors from their arrival point to Mt Barker.
